System requirements

What it needs to run

Short version: if you are on Windows 10 version 2004 or later, the installer has everything it needs.

At a glance

Operating system Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later. Windows 11 recommended — region capture defaults to Ctrl + Print Screen, and the first-run wizard only offers a safe combination if your config still has it on bare Print Screen.
Installer build Nothing extra. The installer embeds its own .NET Desktop Runtime.
Portable build Needs Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime 10.0 or later installed separately.
Architecture x64, x86 and arm64 are all built and tested from the same source.
Disk space Installers measure about 66.6 MB (x64), 62.4 MB (x86) and 60.9 MB (arm64) — each embeds the pinned .NET Desktop Runtime 10.0.12 — plus whatever your capture history grows into.

Pre-release note

Installers are not published yet — those buttons start working when the first release ships. The source archive is available now.

One version number, one place

The version lives in a single constant at the top of assets/main.js. Change it there and every filename, label and download link on the site follows.

Installer

Pick your architecture

Not sure which you need? Win + Pause shows your system type. On almost every modern PC it is x64.

x64

Recommended
MycoCap-INSTALLER-1.0.0-x64.exe

The standard build for Intel and AMD machines.

  • Embeds its own .NET Desktop Runtime — no prerequisites.
  • Per-user install; an all-users install is available as a command-line override.
  • Adds Start menu entries and a .mycocap file association (legacy .greencap files still open).
  • Run at startup, ticked by default and easy to untick.
  • First-run wizard offers a safe region hotkey only when the configured hotkey is bare Print Screen — the installer changes nothing on its own, and MycoCap shows a one-time notification when its hotkey takes over the key.
Download .exe

x86

MycoCap-INSTALLER-1.0.0-x86.exe

For older 32-bit Windows installations that are still doing real work.

  • Identical feature set, 32-bit binaries.
  • Embeds its own .NET Desktop Runtime.
  • Same installer options as the x64 build.
Download .exe

arm64

MycoCap-INSTALLER-1.0.0-arm64.exe

Native speed on Windows on ARM laptops and tablets.

  • Runs natively rather than through emulation.
  • Embeds its own .NET Desktop Runtime.
  • Same installer options as the x64 build.
Download .exe

Each installer is a single self-contained .exe. Windows may warn the first time you run one — see the SmartScreen note.

A stable GitHub Release holds nine assets: the three installers above, the portable ZIP, the corresponding source (MycoCap-<version>-source.zip, required by the GPL), update-feed.json with its Ed25519 signature (update-feed.sig), SHA256SUMS.txt — which covers the installers, the portable ZIP, the feed and the signature, but not the SBOM or the source archive — and an SPDX software bill of materials (MycoCap-<version>-sbom.spdx.json).

No admin? No problem

Portable

No-admin way to run MycoCap — extract the ZIP and carry your settings with you.

Portable ZIP

No installer
MycoCap-PORTABLE-1.0.0.zip

Extract anywhere and run MycoCap.exe directly, or run MycoCap-Launcher.cmd first — it checks for the Desktop Runtime and sends you to Microsoft's download if it is missing. The ZIP installs nothing and nothing lands in Program Files; the only registry writes are the ones you switch on yourself — run at startup, and the optional Print Screen takeover.

  • Settings are self-contained in MycoCap.ini next to the executable.
  • Point --ini-directory <directory> at a USB stick to carry your whole setup.
  • Requires Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime 10.0 or later — this build does not bundle it.
Download .zip

If it will not start, install the Desktop Runtime from Microsoft, then run it again.

Source code

Read it, build it, change it

MycoCap is free software under the GPL-3.0-or-later, so the source goes out with every release — the exact tree these installers were built from.

Source archive

GPL-3.0-or-later
MyCoCap-1.0.0-source.zip

The full repository at this release: src, the build script, the GitHub Actions workflows, LICENSE and README.md, all inside a MyCoCap-1.0.0/ folder.

  • The exact tree behind version 1.0.0 — not a later snapshot.
  • Builds with the .NET SDK; the app targets .NET 10.
  • Use it, study it, change it and pass it on — anything you redistribute stays under the GPL-3.0-or-later.
Download source .zip

5.2 MB. The download is served from dl.mycocap.net rather than from this site.

Why an archive, not a repository

The source is published as a release archive rather than a public repository, so what you download is the complete tree — no account, no request form.

Builds with the .NET SDK

The app targets .NET 10. The archive includes build-and-deploy.ps1 and the CI workflow files alongside the src tree.

Verify your download

Check the hash before you run it

Every release ships with SHA256SUMS.txt. Comparing one line takes about ten seconds and tells you the file arrived intact.

  1. Put the downloaded file and SHA256SUMS.txt in the same folder.
  2. Open PowerShell in that folder.
  3. Hash the file with the command on the right.
  4. Compare it, character for character, with the matching line in SHA256SUMS.txt. If they differ, do not run the file.

Open SHA256SUMS.txt →

PowerShell 7
# hash the installer you just downloaded
> Get-FileHash .\MycoCap-INSTALLER-1.0.0-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA256

Algorithm Hash Path
--------- ---- ----
SHA256 9F2C1A0B7E4D3C8A5B6E9F0D1A2C3B4E5F60718293A4B5C6D7E8F90A1B2C3D4 ...\MycoCap-INSTALLER-1.0.0-x64.exe

# then look for the same line in the sums file
> Select-String -Path .\SHA256SUMS.txt -Pattern "x64"

The hash above is an illustration only. Always trust the copy in SHA256SUMS.txt, not this page.

Windows may still warn you — here is why

Release installers are Authenticode-signed (Azure signing; publisher Mushroom Cyber, chaining to a Microsoft root), so Windows can verify where the file came from. But the signing identity is new and has no download reputation yet, so SmartScreen may still flag the file as unrecognized at first.

  • An unrecognized-app warning may appear in the SmartScreen dialog when you run an installer. Choose More info, confirm you downloaded it from here, then Run anyway.
  • Smart App Control on a fresh Windows 11 install may block it outright with no override. If that happens, you have to turn Smart App Control off, or wait for reputation to build.
  • Your browser may hold the download back too. Same cause, same answer.

The signature proves origin; the SHA-256 hash above proves the file arrived intact. Checking both is the honest answer until reputation catches up, and it is why the sums file ships with every release.

One more thing

What happens to your screen

No telemetry, local history, stripped metadata and an HTTPS-only webhook. The details are short and specific.
